About

I am a specialist in European and international history, with a particular focus on the intersection of economics and geopolitics in the 19th and 20th centuries. I also write about contemporary political and economic issues for a variety of publications such as Foreign Affairs, the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Guardian, and elsewhere. I received my BA in economics and philosophy from University College Utrecht, my MPhil in political thought and intellectual history from the University of Cambridge, and my PhD in history from Columbia University. Since 2019 have I taught at Cornell University, where I am Assistant Professor of Modern European History and Milstein Faculty Fellow.

I comment regularly on geoeconomic issues for international media. For media inquiries please write to me at nicholas.mulder@cornell.edu.
